UNIVERSITI MALAYA AND PEARSON STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP AS PTE SCHOLARSHIP ENTERS THIRD YEAR

Universiti Malaya (UM) continues to strengthen its global education footprint through its strategic collaboration with Pearson, marking two successful years of the PTE x UM Scholarship initiative as it enters its third year of implementation.

A key milestone of this collaboration is UM’s distinction as the only institution in Malaysia to partner with Pearson in offering an exclusive PTE-linked scholarship programme.

This underscores the university’s leadership in advancing innovative, industry-driven academic partnerships.

Originally formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2024, the partnership supports UM’s internationalisation agenda while expanding access to global education opportunities through the Pearson Test of English(PTE).

Over the past two years, the scholarship programme has evolved into a flagship initiative, providing financial support and recognition to high-achieving students from diverse backgrounds.

Valued at up to £3,000, the award has enabled recipients to pursue their academic studies at Universiti Malaya.

The PTE x UM Scholarship 2025 Award Ceremony was held on 9 April 2026, where the award was presented to Lin Tingyi from the Faculty of Education by Dencoln Tan.

The ceremony was witnessed by Hasniza Zaman Huri, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), alongside representatives from Pearson and Universiti Malaya.

Currently pursuing a Master of Education in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), Ms. Lin Tingyi was recognised for her academic excellence and linguistic proficiency reflecting UM’s commitment to developing globally competent educators.

Beyond financial assistance, the initiative has enhanced Universiti Malaya’s visibility as a preferred global study destination, attracting high-quality international students from over 90 countries. It also reinforces the role of English proficiency as a critical gateway to academic and professional success.

The continued success of the programme reflects the shared commitment between Universiti Malaya and Pearson to nurturing talent within a globally connected academic ecosystem. As the initiative enters its third year, both institutions are poised to further expand its impact, supporting Malaysia’s aspiration to become a leading regional education hub.
