Universiti Malaya (UM), through the Global Mobility Centre (GMC), successfully concluded two international mobility programmes- the Language and Cultural Engagement Programme @ UM 2026, and UM–Daito Bunka University Language and Cultural Engagement Programme 2026, bringing together students from Chuo University, Tohoku University and Daito Bunka University, Japan, as well as Sejong University, Republic of Korea.
Throughout their stay in Malaysia, participants experienced a vibrant combination of language learning, cultural exploration, community engagement and friendship. Beyond the classroom, students discovered Malaysia through cultural activities, local excursions and meaningful interactions with UM Global Buddies.
A Weekend to Remember: Malaysian Homestay Experience
A major highlight was the 2-day, 1-night homestay experience in Homestay D’ Pelandok Best, Negeri Sembilan, where students stepped beyond the university environment and experienced Malaysian village life firsthand.
Hosted by the local community, participants enjoyed traditional cuisine, learned Malaysian crafts and games, and explored the village.More than simply a visit, the homestay offered students a glimpse into the warmth of Malaysian hospitality and created opportunities for genuine connections between participants, UM Global Buddies and the local community.
